BMW automatic gearbox E 46 technical information
E 46 introduces a new 5 speed automatic transmission produced by General Motors, those given division in Strasbourg, France. Transmission will be available as an option in both the 323i and 328i models from start of production. A5S 360R will also be available in 1999 528i (9/98 production). A5S 360R transmission offers the following features and benefits: The A5S 360R has a maximum torque rating 360Nm. designed and manufactured to give free lifetime maintenance operation, gradually the torque converter lock up delivers a controlled degree of clutch slipping and sliding transition to full lock. Transmission diagnosis improved because of the new E 46 diagnostic concept. Components: made of aluminum alloy, are cases light weight. Single piece oil pan is made of internal wall sheet metal. It includes a drain plug on the bottom surface at the rear.
